The U8
The U8 is a non-partisan student network aiming to inspire and facilitate shared learning and dialogue amongst students in the field of international development.
Connecting young individuals from universities in developing and developed countries will, we believe, increase understanding of complex issues and the ability of students to reflect upon, appraise and challenge policy. Visit the site here.
WIDS hosted the U8 summit on the weekend of 9th-11th March 2007 where 150 students from 11 different countries came to Warwick to debate development issues.
The highlight of the summit was the high-profile speaker event on the topic "To what extent do developing countries influence the policies that affect them" with Salil Shetty (Director of the UN Millennium Campaign), Dr. Kingsley Moghalu (Head of Global Partnerships, Global Fund), Prof. Frankly Lisk (Former Director of the HIV/AIDS Programme, ILO), H.E. Kuban Mambetaliev (Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to the UK).
The U8 was featured in The Hindu and in the Guardian and the summit was covered by BBC World Radio.
