Due to an ever increasing interest among Warwick students in the sphere of international development, the Warwick International Development Society is expanding its activities and wants to provide students with the opportunity to explore how they can get involved in the international development process. Therefore, in association with the University of Warwick Careers Service, we are organising some careers events specifically aimed at the field of international development.

'Careers in International Development: 4 ways to go'
An information session and speaker presentations

Date: 14th November - 4pm in MS03:

The first event of its kind, WIDS in association with the careers service, is proud to be hosting ‘Careers in International Development: 4 ways to go’! This is a unique chance for those of you interested in careers international development, to find out more about what opportunities are available. The event will have representatives from different sectors looking at the specification and career opportunities in each of them.

Confirmed speaker so far:

Private sector - Jon Taylor, principal consultant HTSPE

He will be giving a presentation on the role of the Private sector in Development, the specification of International Development Consultancy and will also give insights from his personal experience he has gained while working in International Development.

International Development First Hand

Date: 19th November - 4pm in R0.12

WIDS in association with the careers service is hosting another great chance for you to find out about working in international development. Students who have worked, done internships, or volunteered in each of the four sectors will be sharing their experiences, and available to answer questions and give advise on what organisations are looking for in your applications.

Confirmed students have worked in the following:
UN association of the Congo
BBC world service trust
Permanent Mission of Austria to the UN in Vienna
Grassroots research organization in Malawi

These and the subsequent careers events are not only aiming but rather promising to help and inspire many young and keen professionals to-be from top UK universities and a wide variety of academic backgrounds to commit their future careers to furthering the field of international development, a field that is challenging, ethical and highly rewarding.
